Son of Margaret and the late James FEATHERSTON of 49 Goode Road, Port Pirie, SA. Educated at St. Mark's and St. John's High Schools, he was interested in tennis and was secretary of the St. Mark's Tennis Club. In civilian life Edward was employed at B.H.A. Smelters, Port Pirie and enlisted in December 1941 and saw service in Darwin.
Mr. Kevin Featherston
Collapsed At Work
Mr. Edward Kevin Featherston 34, of Mqorehouse street. Solomontown, collapsed and died early on Wednesday afternoon while at work at Broken Hill Associated Smelters. He had complained of feeling ill while motoring on Saturday, but his passing came as a shock to his wide circle of friends and associates. A well-known figure in Pirie sporting spheres, Mr. Featherston was secretary of Port Football Club. For many years he had been an enthusiastic member of the old St. Mark's Tennis Club. Mr. Featherston was a returned serviceman of World War II, having served abroad with the army.
He left a widow.
His funeral yesterday was largely attended, nearly a half mile of cars following the remains to Pirie Cemetery. Requiem Mass was said yesterday morning in St. Mark's Cathedral, and there was a brief service before the cortege proceeded to the cemetery.
Pirie Football League and associated clubs were officially represented. Mgr. P. Coffey, assisted by Fr. Pope, conducted the obsequies, and those who bore the coffin were Messrs. C. Loftes, S. Warne, and L. Matters (Mr. Featherston's workmates in the bricklayers' department at B.H.A.S.), H. W. Bronnick, W. Johnson, and T. Barry (Port Football Club).
The coffin was carried to the grave draped with the flag. As it was lowered Mr. W. S. Stratford sounded "Last Post" and "Reveille."
