The main body of the 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion continued to thrust patrols into the features to the south and every day one or more fierce clashes occurred. On the 19th on a feature named"Steve's" there was a fight in which two Australians and four Japanese were killed. Next day there was a clash in which Corporal Nicholson was killed; Sergeant Bowering went forward under fire and carried in his body.
