Sergeant Ross Ferguson Daniell (Service No:SX14422) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:S32797) with 4 Ordnance Workshop Coy AAOC - graded Driver Operator - from 17 November 1940 until he enlisted in the AIF on 8 September 1941. Graded Clerk, Sergeant Daniell was attached to 2/9 Armoured Regiment at Discharge on 8 April 1946. His father Thomas and sister Jean also served in WWII.
Ross was born in 1922 in Wayville, Adelaide, South Australia, eldest of two children of Thomas Ferguson Daniell (b1894 in Adelaide, South Australia) and his first wife Gladys Adelaide Chick (b1896 in Adelaide, South Australia). Thomas started work as a Telegraph Messenger and was a Newspaper Representative in Adelaide in 1921 when he and Gladys married. Following their Divorce in 1940, Thomas remarried and worked in Adelaide as an Advertising Manager.
Ross was working in Adelaide as a Clerk in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1946 in Adelaide he married Margaret Owens (b1925/1926 in Adelaide, South Australia). Following his Discharge from the Army, Ross and Margaret lived in Adelaide, then in the early 1950s in Franklin, Tasmania - where Ross was an Insurance Clerk and Margaret worked as a Secretary. In the late 1950s they moved to Sydney and then Kurrajong, where Ross worked as an Insurance Clerk and Assessor and Margaret as a Secretary. Margaret died in 1992 and Ross in 2014.
