William was rejected when he tried to enlist in 1941. Later that same year he used his brother’s name and date of birth, and was accepted. Back in Australia after serving in the Middle East he informed his CO 2/7 Field Regt of the enlistment incident and reverted to his true name and date of birth on the 15 Jun 1943 (see page 19 & 20).  (see page 4).
