Add my storyBiography contributed by Neil Field
When war broke out at the beginning of WW2 Eric Field, at age 35 years, tried to enlist for service in the AIF in October 1939. He changed his year of birth to make his age seem younger but his bid was to no avail as he was rejected on medical grounds. He served in a local militia unit and was appointed as a Lance Corporal and this service continued until on 1 April 1941 he successfully managed to enlist in the AIF as a Private and he served in the 2/2 Field Ambulance attached to the 2/2 Australian Field Regiment. He saw service in the Middle East, Ceylon and New Guinea. He was discharged medically unfit at age 40 on 22/5/1944. He had 3 older siblings serve in WW1-William Hampstead Field, Ralph Ewart Field and Wybert Edward Field.
