Biography

Pte. William L McCann of Geranium. Aged 24 years, eldest son of Mr and Mrs JL McCann, of Kyre Ave, Kingswood. He enlisted in the 2/10 Battalion in March 1941, and left for overseas in September of the same year. He returned to Australia in August, 1942 and left for New Guinea in October. While being transferred by palne to the battlefront, the plane crashed on landing and he died of injuries on January 18 1943. His brother Peter enlisted in the RAN. William took a keen interest in tennis and football.
