Son of Mrs G and the late G HICKS of Murray Bridge, SA.
Husband of Lorna Edith HICKS of Jervois, SA.
Educated at Karoonda Public School he was one of the best all round players in the River Murray and Murray Downs Football Association. Jervois Associated were Premiers eleven years in succession. He was also a good and keen tennis player and was champion player in tennis matches and tournaments. At the time of enlistment in July 1940, Ronald was employed with the Engineeer and Waterworks Department.
