My Father
My Father never spoke of his wartime experiences, when we asked how many japs/germans did you kill Dad? he was always silent, or "we all shot at once" etc.
However my wife mentioned to me years after my fathers death that he had told her that he had jumped into a bomb crater to take cover, where there was a japanese soldier in residence, he (my father ) shot him. I think it had weighed on his mind for many years.
He served at Tobruk, El Alamein, Scarlet beach, Borneo etc, his division were also instrumental in capturing one of the early "enigma" encryption machine plus 11 german cryptography persnnel, so many stories we missed out on.
Received his "front line medal" in 1991!
