Alfred Ralph Dayman was born on the 10th of September in 1920. He was born in Adelaide and grew up in the suburb of Prospect. His parents were Gwendoline Kathleen Dayman (nee Phillips) and Alfred Francis Dayman. He had a brother named Gwen Dayman. 

Dayman enlisted in the 2nd A.I.F on the 27th of July 1940. He enlisted from his hometown of Adelaide. He joined the 2/9 Australian General Hospital unit and operated in this unit during the Second World War. He served in Middle East and the Pacific.

He was discharged on the 10th of November 1943. 

He passed away on the 20th of March 1944, aged 23, due to an illness.
