Son of J & A BOWMAN of Royal Avenue, Adelaide, SA. Married with two children, Jack was educated at Wilmington School and played football for Wilmington and also for the Aldgate Club. In early life he worked int he S.A. Railways but then transeferred to the Waterworks Depoartment from where he enlisted in June 1940. He was sent to Alice Springs and then to Melbourne from where he left Australian in January 1942. His two brothers served in the Great War, harold with the 27th Battalion was killed in action and Roy returned after the Armistice. Errol was reported missing in Batavia.
