Pre World War 2

Prior to World War 2 William Jackson Mackay, or 'Jack' because of his second name, was an outstanding Australian Rules Footballer, playing at the highest level in South Australia in the SANFL and being selected frequently to represent the State, including the 1933 Sydney Carnival.

Jack began his football career with South Adelaide in 1926, and finished with South Adelaide in 1937 after 131 games, but had period with North Adelaide between 1931 - 1934 playing 72 games and winning the 1931 premiership against Sturt and losing the 1932 Grand Final to Sturt. 

William Jackson MacKay played 12 season of SANFL and is Honoured on the North Adelaide Football Club

Military Medal

Warrant Officer Class 2 William Jackson MacKay was recommended for the Military Medal on 27th June 1945, for 'Courage of high order at BEAUFORT. 

William was presented the Military Medal by the Governor of South Australia, at Government House Adelaide, South Australia on the 7th May 1947
