Lieutenant George Douglas Fairbairn Rowell (1910-1976),

A nephew of Col. James Rowell, George Douglas Fairbairn Rowell enlisted in July 1940.   Among other postings Rowell served as a Bearer Officer, 2/8th  Australian Field Ambulance, which served in North Africa, Papua New Guinea and Borneo.

He was a Prisoner of War in Italy from April 1941 to May 1943 having been captured in Tobruk. He was promoted to Lieutenant in October 1944. He was mentioned in despatches in November 1944.
