Loss of Loved ones while Serving

The news of his mother’s death, in 1941 was difficult for Bernard (Bernie) to bear, as she died, just after his battalion had left fierce fighting in Tobruk and were redeployed to Palestine.

The news of his older brother Frank’s (Francis William) death in early 1943, when it came when Bernie’s battalion was now, in New Guinea yet another challenging loss to endure, while he continued fighting for his country.
