Private Edward Noel Thorpe (Service No:SX6492) enlisted in the AIF on 23 June 1940, and was attached to 2/43 Battalion in the Middle East (Tobruk, Syria) from 23 December 1940, and in New Guinea (Buna, Moresby: 7 August 1943 - 10 April 1944) with 2/7 Australian General Hospital. Private Thorpe was attached to 2/7 Australian General Hospital at Discharge on 18 September 1944. He served in the RAAF as an Aircraftman I (Service No:89574) attached to RAAF Station Laverton - mustered as Trainee Medical Orderly - from 21 November 1949 to 28 March 1950.

Born in Unley, South Australia in 1919, Edward was second of six children of Edward Noel Thorpe Snr (b1877 in Adelaide, South Australia) and his second wife Elsie Catherine Vining (nee Nunn; b1892 in Colton, South Australia). Edward Snr and Elsie  settled in Adelaide and Gawler, where they raised their family and Edward Snr was a Poultry Farmer and Labourer.

Edward was working as a Station Hand in Adelaide in 1940 when he married his first wife Ivy Sybil Rogers (b1922 in Adelaide, South Australia), and enlisted in the Army. Edward and Ivy separated in 1944, and divorced in 1950. Following his Discharge from the Army in 1944, Edward worked briefly in Darwin NT as an Ambulance Driver and Ward Orderly before moving to Launceston, Tasmania where he settled with Eunice Gloria Fleahy (b1923 in Wagin, Western Australia) - Eunice served in the Army (Service No:WF9617). Edward was a Tram Conductor/Motorman and Eunice was a Saleswoman in Launceston in 1949 when Edward enlisted in the RAAF. They married in Melbourne in 1953, and moved to Pingaring in Western Australia in the early 1950s. Following their Divorce in the late 1950s, both remarried - Edward to Roma Grace in the early 1960s. Edward and Roma living in Williamstown, where Edward was an Overseer with the Main Roads Department. Edward died in 1974.
