Lance Corporal Clifford Charles James Kempster (Service No:SX6075) enlisted in the AIF on 21 June 1940 as a Private - graded Cook. Private Kempster served in the Middle East with AIF Kit Stores (ME) from 5 May 1941 to 22 May 1942, and was appointed Lance Corporal on 15 December 1945. Lance Corporal Kempster was attached to AIF Kit Stores (ME) at Discharge on 4 March 1947.
Dan was born in Cowell, Franklin Harbour, South Australia in 1910, youngest of four children of Charles Herbert Kempster (b1876 in Magill, South Australia) and his first wife Jane Hounslow (b1867 in Magill, South Australia). Charles (a Mason and Bricklayer) and Jane married in 1897 in Kadina, and lived in Clare, Alford, Wallaroo and Cowell before settling in Adelaide - Charles was a Builder. Charles had enlisted in the AIF in 1915 (Private; Service No:9570), but was Discharged in 1916 as Medically Unfit. Following Joan's death in 1929, Charles remarried.
In 1933 in Adelaide, Dan married Laura Beryl Williams (b1912 in Yatina, South Australia). Dan and Laura settled in Adelaide, where Dan was working as a Distiller when he enlisted in the Army in 1940. Dan died in 1972 and Laura in 1994.
