Alfred Charles was born on 27 November 1908 in Kalgoorlie, South Australia, Australia,he was the eldest son of Phillip & Beatrice Menz. Alfred joined the South Australia Police in 1930 he was placed into the mounted branch. He married Minetta Ida Bockmann on 15 February 1936 in South Australia. He put his Policing career on hold and joined the Australian Army and was placed into 8th division provost Company,where he obtained the rank of captain. Alf was taken prisoner on 15 February 1942 in Singapore, and remained there until the end of the war. Alf died on 10 October 1990 in Adelaide, South Australia, at the age of 81, and was buried in Mitcham, South Australia.
