7th Div Petrol Company.
SX4837 C. J. Hendry was an original member of the South Australian, 7th Division Petrol Company.
The company was formed by Captain T. C Williamson in mid 1940, Adelaide.
Whilst serving in the middle east, the 7th Div Petrol company was split by Army HQ.
A section was sent in support of the 9th Division AASC. Another Section was assigned to the RAF at Bardia. The remainder of the Coy, were tasked to support the 7th Division in their operations in Palestine.
The 7th Div Petrol Company was disbanded early 1942 and taken on strength into the 2/4, 2/5, & 2/6th Coys of the 7th Division AASC . This was mandated by the 7th Division HQ. (The reason why? I don't know. It could possibly be that the 7th Division HQ wanted greater divisional control over the 7th Div supply lines. This theory is conjecture)
SX4837 C. J. Hendry was reassigned to the 2/5 Coy 7th Division AASC on the 13/1/1942.
On the 12th August 1945, C. J. Hendry and 16 other South Australian soldiers of the original 7th Division Petrol Coy, signed the Balikpapan Flag.
The 17 soldiers served throughout WW2.
The campaigns they were involved in were: the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo (Balikpapan).

Resting place
C J Hendry sadly lost his life on the 7th or 8th of March 1953 due to a motorcycle accident. Source is the S.A. Coroners report No, 141 dated that year.
C J Hendry lies at rest, in the West Terrace Cemetery, Catholic section, Adelaide.
