Corporal Francis Otto Joralafsky (Service No:SX3467) enlisted in the AIF on 25 May 1940 as a Private attached to 2/27 Infantry Battalion - graded Cook. Private Joralafsky served with 2/27th Infantry Battalion in the Middle East (Palestine, Syria and Lebanon) from 20 October 1940 to 30 January 1942. Promoted to Corporal, he served with 2/27 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (Port Moresby, Mission Ridge on the Kokoda Trail, Gona) from 7 August 1942 to 16 January 1943. Corporal Joraslafsy was attached to 2/27 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 3 December 1945.
Francis was born in Kooringa via Burra, South Australia in 1900, second of six children of Otto Joseph Joraslafsky (b1866 in Aldinga, South Australia) and Bridget Barrow (nee Nugent; b1866 in County Clare, Ireland). Otto (a Labourer) and Bridget (a Widow with three small daughters) married 1898 in Kooringa via Burra, where they settled and raised their family and Otto was a Labourer. Following Bridget's death in 1923, Otto moved to Adelaide.
Francis worked as a Labourer in Adelaide and Hindmarsh, and served with the AIF in 1918 for five months at the Mitcham Camp. In 1923 in Adelaide, Francis married Muriel Levina Mathan Lines (b1903 at Matta Flat via Kadina, South Australia). Francis and Muriel lived in Adelaide, Hindmarsh and Prospect, where they raised their family and Francis worked as a Labourer and Clerk. Francis died in 1963 and Muriel in 1971.
