Henry Thomas Johnson was born in North Adelaide on the 15th of January 1915. He attended Woodville High School. After school he worked as a traveller before enlisting into the army. He grew up in Brompton and was only 25 years old when he enlisted for World War II.
Henry enlisted in North Adelaide, South Australia, on the 25th of May 1940. He joined the 2/27 Battalion of the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.). He later travelled to the Middle East on the 18th of April 1942 with the 2/27 Battalion, 2nd A.I.F. as part of his service overseas.
He left Australia on October 21, 1940, departing from Melbourne on an unspecified troop ship. His battalion arrived in Egypt on November 24, 1940. He then fought in the Syrian Campaign in 1941. He returned to Australia in March 1941 and was hospitalised in late May 1942. He marched out to QLD Line of communication area in July 1942. He got in trouble for being AWL between the 18th and 21st of July, 1942.
Johnson was promoted to Acting Corporal 8th August 1942 and on the same day embarked from Brisbane arriving in Port Moresby a week later. His rank of Corporal was confirmed in November 1942. He was killed in action 30 November 1942.
He was buried at the Bomana War Cemetery in Port Moresby on the 29th of July, 1945 on the Kokoda Track.
