Jack Colin Cuming (brother of Robert Wylie Burns Cuming) was born in Torrensville, SA on the 18th of August 1912 to Doris and Robert Burns Cumming.

Jack was educated at St Peters College where he was School Prefect 1931 and House Prefect Wyatt House 1931.

In 1932 he commenced at St Marks College, Adelaide, undertaking an Engineering Course at the University of Adelaide. He was a member of the University Sports Association serving as Secretary on the Committee. Cuming participated in the University Golf and Rowing Clubs with sporting achievements include; member of the Inter-University and Henley Eight, earning a University Blue for rowing and the College colours in 1932 and 1933. Jack can be seen in his photo wearing a St Marks College blazer.

Jack worked for his father at the Adelaide Chemical and Fertilizer Co. in Port Adelaide as an assistant works manager.

In 1938 Cuming married Joan Murray and later had one child.

Jack served in the 27th Infantry Battalion and was killed in action in Papua New Guinea, 29 November 1942. He is buried at the Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea.
