Unit Serving with at Balikpapan, 12 Aug. 1945

SX2656 R.W. Welsh was serving with the 2/8 Transport platoon, 2/153 Australian General Transport Coy. 7th division A.I.F when he signed the Balikpapan Flag.
He joined the unit, 16/9/1944. He served with that unit at Balikpapan and was finally transferred to the 2/7 Transport platoon 11/10/1945.

7th Division Petrol Company

SX2656 Richard White Welsh was an original member of the South Australian raised, 7th Div Petrol Company.
Captain T.C. Williamson formed the company, mid 1940, Adelaide.

The company served in the Middle East until disbandment.
R. W. Welsh was transferred to the 2/5 coy, AASC 7th Division. 13/1/1942.

During service, he was transferred to other units of the 7th Div AASC.

He served in the Middle east, New Guinea and Borneo.

On the 12 August 1945, SX2656 Richard White Welsh signed the Balikpapan Flag, with 57 others in Borneo. At that time he was serving with the 2/8 Transport platoon, 2/153 Australian General Transport Coy. 7th Div A.I.F.

17 of the signatories (including R.W. Welsh) were original members of the South Australian, 7th Division Petrol Company.
