Add my storyBiography contributed by Cheryl Mellor
Goodwin was one of Five Australians reported to the Japanese by the Australian Commanding Officer of Adam Park POW Camp, Lt-Col Roland Oakes 2/26th Btn - the 5 POWs were sentenced to 3 years Solitary Confinement at Outram Road Gaol, Singapore, their sentences commencing 17 May 1942.
Outram Road Gaol was by far the most notorious for the brutality dealt by Japanese Army Secret Police, Kempitai. Prisoners starved, beaten daily and remained alone in cells for the years 1942 to end 1943 after which there were so many prisoners, they were forced to share cells with 2 others.
Lt.Col Roland Oakes was never reprimanded for his 'criminal' actions against Australian soldiers.
