Sapper William Roy Jenkins (Service No:SX2502) initially served in the Militia with 22nd and 23rd Light Horse Regiments prior to enlisting for service in WWI - on the first occasion on 3 September 1914 as a Private (Service No:871) with 3rd District Train AASC untl he was Discharged within a few weeks following his mother's objection. Private Jenkins (Service No:13753) enlisted on the second on  occasion on 18 November 1917 and was Discharged as Medically Unfit for Further Service on 22 December 1917. In WWII, Private Jenkins enlisted in the AIF on 30 April 1940 (appointed Blacksmith) and was attached to 2 Railway Construction Coy RAE when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Liverpool on 27 May 1940 on board HMT Stratheden. Sapper Jenkins embarked from England for Melbourne on 15 January 1941 on board HMS Mauretania, and was attached to 2 Railway Construction Coy RAE at Discharge on 31 May 1941 (Medically Unfit).

William was born in Stirling, South Australia in 1894, eldest of seven children of William Jenkins Snr (b1865 in Wallaroo, South Australia) and Edna Mary Charlotte Stutley (1871 at Gawler Plains, South Australia). William Snr and Edna married in 1891 in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family and William Snr was a Labourer.

William worked as Farrier/Blacksmith and, in 1915 in Mitcham, married Rebecca Jane Laird (b1895 in Samford, QLD). William and Rebecca settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and William worked as a Farrier/Blacksmith. William died in 1958 and Rebecca in 1986.
