Phillip was reported missing in action on the 7th June 1941, and confirmation of his death was reported 11 days later on the 16 June 1941". THE TIMES & NORTHERN ADVOCATE (PETERBOROUGH) 27 June 1941; reported that "Victoria L Martin of Morchard, recently received information that her son, Phillip, had been "Killed in Action" Abroad, on May 24th, which, was just two days before his 21st birthday."
