Educated at Christian Brothers Ovingham, Maurice was interested in football and cricket and took an active interest in motor cycling and side car racing winning many events. Married and residing at Walkerville Terrace Gilberton, he was a motor driver and after some years with Yellow Cabs Ltd. left to enlist in November 1939. Leaving Australia in May 1940 he took part in campaigns up to Tobruk and after several months in this sector was killed in action at Tobruk on July 5th 1941. He was very popular and had two brothers in the AMF.

Maurice Vesey DOODY was born on 14th Feb. 1915 in Adelaide, SA
His parents were John Michael DOODY and Ellen Gertrude FITZSIMONS
He married Rita Agnes CLOHESSY on 26th April, 1937 in Holy Name Church, St Peters, SA
He enlisted on 27th November 1939 with the Australian Army Service Corp. AIF - 9 Divisional Ammunition Column - Service No. SX1137
Maurice was Killed in Action on 5th July 1941 in Egypt and is buried in Tobruk War Cemetery, Grave Ref. 4 H 1
