Lance Corporal John Thomas Sherringham (Service No:2151) enlisted in the AIF on 4 April 1916 and was attached to 55th Infantry Battalion and 9th Infantry Training Battalion before embarking from Sydney for Devonport on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 24 August 1916. Promoted and transferred to 35th Infantry Battalion in October/November 1916, Lance Corporal Sherringham embarked from England on 6 June 1918 for the RTA on board HT Barambah, and was attached to 35th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 29 August 1918. His son and grandson both served in WWII.

Jack was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1884, third f ten children of Henry James Sheringham (b1847 at South Creek, Hawkesbury, New South Wales) and Rebecca Mary Jane Harrison (b1862 in Sydney, New South Wales). Henry was a Blacksmith in 1883 when he and Rebecca married in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family. Henry was a Blacksmith. 

Jack worked as a Labourer in Sydney, where in 1904 he married Kathleen (Lena/Sherry) Moroney (b1887 in Gosford, New South Wales). Jack and Lena settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Jack worked as a Labourer. In 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF, Jack was a Tramways Pitman, and following his Discharge he and Lena settled in Sydney, where theyn raised their family and Jack was a Tramways Employee - Electrical Mechanic. The couple separated in the late 1920s - Lena later moved to Melbourne where she died in 1948. Jack lived with his mother in Sans Souci, where he worked as an Electrical Mechanic with the Tramways. Jack was living in Manly when he died in 1955.
