Private William Mark Hanton (Service No:V358616) enlisted in the ACMF on 29 May 1942 and was attached to !0 Battalion VDC when he Discharged on 1 April 1944. Private Hanton previously served with the AIF in WWI (Private; Service No:1875).

Born in 1878 in Adelaide South Australia, William was the eldest of six children of Henry Benjamin Hanton (b1852 in Middlesex, London) and Sarah Ann Dalton (b1854 in Warwickshire, England). Henry immigrated with his parents and siblings, arriving in Adelaide, South Australia in 1864. Henry and Sarah married in 1875 in Adelaide, South Australia and by the mid 1890s had moved their family to Melbourne, Victoria where Henry was a Fruiterer and Fishmonger.

William worked in Melbourne as a Clerk and in 1907 married Ellen (Nell) Clement Annand (b1883 in Maryborough, Victoria). By 1912 the family had settled in Frankston, Victoria where William worked as an Orchardist and Gardener. William served in both Wars, and died in 1956. Nell died in 1962.
