Born in Holland, Arnold was the son of Servanus and Henderika Otterspoor, who emigrated to Australia from Holland during 1920 with their remaining children.
Arnold and his brothers had come out to Brisbane during 1912 and they all enlisted in the AIF.
A younger brother, 464 Francis Jacob Otterspoor, 32st Bn, was killed in action at Fromelles, France 19 July 1916. Arnold’s twin brother 3900 Pte John Otterspoor, 4th Pioneer Bn, was killed in action, Villers-Bretonneux, France, 22 May 1918.
