Corporal Gladys Elma Scott (Service No:VF397003) served in the AWAS (30 December 1942 - 24 October 1945) as a Private with LHQ Records and Corporal attached to 2 Echeclon LHQ - graded Clerk.
Gladys was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1922, second of three children of John Warrington Scott (b1890 in Roxburgshire, Scotland) and Nellie May Oates (b1896 in Ballarat, Victoria). John had immigrated in 1901 with his parents and siblings, arriving in Hobart, Tasmania on board the Tongariro. John started work in Hobart with his father as a Fruit Salesman before moving to Werrington via Penrith, New South Wales, where he was a Fruit Salesman in 1916 when he enlsited in the AIF (Lance Corporal; Service No:1705). Discharged in Hobart in 1919, John worked as a Fruit Salesman before joining his parents in Adelaide, where he and Nellie married in 1920 - Nellie was Dressmaker in Ballarat. By 1924 John and Nellie had settled in Ballarat, where they raised their family and John was a Mill Worker and Railway Employee.
Gladys was working in Ballarat as a Salesgirl in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army, and in 1945 married Keith Henry Hatherell (b1921 in Hamilton, Victoria) - Keith was a Private in the Army (Service No:VX124052). Following Discharge, Gladys and Keith settled in Hamilton, Victoria where they raised their family and Keith was a Butcher. Gladys died in 2002 and Keith in 2004.
