"For conspicuous gallantry and coolness in action during the attack by the enemy on our position on the morning of 15th April at NOREUIL.
He was one of a party sent out to disperse an enemy party collecting under a bank. The ground to be traversed was swept by heavy rifle fire and half the party was wounded.
This N.C.O. succeeded in reaching the objective, assisted in killing a number of the enemy, and personally took four prisoners.
His wonderful coolness and fine example inspired not only his own party, but numbers of others who witnessed the affair.
