Bombardier Ernest George Walter Allan (Service No:VX15882) previously served in the Militia (Service Nos:296000/471083) as a Private with Signals 2nd Division in 1938/1939. He enlisted in the Army on 3 June 1940 as a Gunner and served with 2nd/4th Field Regiment in the Middle East (20 October 1940 - 25 March 1942), in New Guinea (30 July 1943 - 4 March 1944) and in Borneo (Morotai and Balikapan: 15 June 1945 - 22 November 1945). Bombardier Allan was attached to 2nd/4th Field Regiment at Discharge on 8 March 1946.
Born in Moonta, South Australia in 1915, Ernest was second of three children of the Reverend James Ernest Allan (b1883 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Elsie Gertrude Avon Wright (b1886 at Lancefield in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria). James was a Grocer in 1910 in Melbourne when he and Elsie married, and he became an Evangelist/Clergyman by 1912. James and Elsie lived in South Australia and Melbourne where they raised their family and James was a Clegyman with the Church of Christ.
Ernest was working as a Salesman in Melbourne from the 1930s, and was in Melbourne in 1942 when he married Greta Irene Powell (b1920 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Greta was a Typist in Melbourne. Ernest and Greta divorced, and Greta was in Japan in 1947 when she remarried a US serviceman and settled in the USA. Following his Discharge, Ernest returned to Melbourne and was a Salesman in 1950 when he remarried to Elaine Alice May Rodda (b1922 in Traflagar, Victoria) - Elaine was a Divorcee, working as a Registered Nurse/Mid Wife at Gippsland Hospital and in Bendigo following her Divorce in 1946. Ernest and Elaine settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Ernest worked as a Salesman and Manager. Ernest died in 1995 and Elaine in 2015.
