Staff Sergeant Kaspar George Henkel (Service No:N257564) initially served in the Militia (Private: Service No:135663) with 36 Battalion from 30 April 1920 to 17 August 1922. Staff Sergeant Henkel served in the ACMF with 28 Battalion VDC from 24 June 1942 to 14 September 1945.

Kap was born in Broken Hill, New South Wales in 1906, eldest of two children of Frederick Carl Henkel (b1878 in Grafton, New South Wales) and Amelia (Millie) Teresa Foreman (b1880 in Clare, South Australia). Frederick worked as a Labourer in Bellingen, and was a Police Constable when he and Millie married in 1905 in Broken Hill. They lived in Broken Hill, Hillston and Sydney, where they raised their family and Frederick was a Police Constable (Badge No:8230).

Kap started work in Sydney as a Clerk, and in 1932 married Gwendoline (Gwen) Ruby Thelma Davies (b1908 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Gwen was an Elocution Teacher.  Kap and Gwen settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Kap worked as a Salesman until his death in 1968. Gwen died in 1983.
