14 May 1919: | Honoured Military Medal and bar, Military Medal. During the operations at Herleville, East of Amiens on 17th/18th August 1918, this man displayed great courage. Prior to and during the attack he did splendid work in line - repairing under heavy shell fire. During the attack on 18th August when the line between Forward Company Headquarters and Battle Headquarters was cut he crawled out in daylight over the open and mended the breaks thus restabilising communication. Whilst doing this he was continuously under sniping and Machine Gun fire. On return to Company Headquarters he volunteered for stretcher bearing duty and did splendid work in that capacity. This man rendered most valuable and gallant services which are deserving of recognition. London Gazette on 14 May 1919, page 6060, position 6.
