Oliver Hutchison Roberts was an orphan with nine older siblings. He was the youngest child of George and Catherine Roberts (nee Blackman). The Roberts were a farming family and his was raised by his older siblings. For his mother died when he was 12 followed by his father when he was 15. His brother Ivan was medically discharged from the 2nd A.I.F. in 1943 after twice suffering gunshot wounds in New Guinea. Oliver too apsired to be a soldier. Korea would be his war. He enlisted but was mortally wounded. Oliver had fought in Korea for sixteen days before his death. He was 20.
