More information about the accident that caused Hudsons death
In summary, a 43 Squadron Spitfire piloted by South African Lt Duchen collided with a tanker on landing at night and overturned. Ainslie was helping to extricate him from the cockpit when another 43 Squadron Spitfire, flown by Flight Lieutenant Lowther, landed and smashed into the wreckage. Ainslie and Duchen were both killed and Lowther badly burned. Following this yet another 43 Squadron Spitfire hit the tanker, its pilot also being badly injured.
Died while trying to free a pilot from a burning Spitfire after a multiple landing accident at Florence."
The landing accident involved at least 3 Spitfires from 43 Squadron.

Hudson Garth AINSLIE was born on 26th January, 1923, Sydney, New South Wales
His parents were Adam Richard AINSLIE and Josephine Beatrice BOLGER
He enlisted on 21st June, 1941 with the Royal Australian Air Force
Hudson was killed accidentally at Florence Airfield, Italy on 2nd October, 1944 (see story below for more details) - he is buried in Florence War Cemetery, Grave 1 D 3 - he is Honoured on the Australian War Memorial and the Roll of Honour in Brisbane, Queensland
His father Adamin Richard AINSLIE served in the first World War
