Sergeant George Stewart Andrews 6694 from RAAF Headquarters North Eastern Area was the only RAAF member onboard USAAF B17 Flying Fortress 41-2656 which was lost in the New Guinea area - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Port Moresby Memorial
The B17 of 19th Bombardment Group, 435 Bombing Squadron departed from Port Moresby on a lone reconnaissance mission and failed to return to base
