HIS MEMORY LIVETH
Mrs A.N. Anthony, of 1 Tointon Street, was advised by the authorities on Wednesday night that her son, Sapper Maxwell Norman Anthony, had died of wounds on Anzac Day. Sapper Anthony was a native of Toowoomba and was 21 years of age. He was educated at the South State Boys’ School. Shortly after leaving school he joined the staff of the Toowoomba City Council and when he enlisted he was employed as a blacksmith. He was well liked by his fellow employees. He enlisted in the A.I.F. in June last year and went overseas in November. The last letter his mother received from him was written from Tobruk. This stated that the Engineers had been fighting since January 18 and he was looking forward to getting leave on May 14. Mrs A.N. Anthony has been advised by the Red Cross Bureau for Wounded, Missing and Prisoners of War that a report has been received from the bureau’s searchers in the Middle East concerning her son, Private M.N. Anthony, who died of wounds. The report states: “This man was killed at Tobruk out on the mine field. He was buried in Tobruk Cemetery on April 26 by the padre of the 2nd/7th Field Company.”
