Private Walter Kingsford Arcus was born in August 1908, the son of James and Kate Arcus. In 1938 he married Cassie Louisa Hughes. He enlisted in the AIF on 19 May 1942, initially serving in New South Wales, then to the Northern Territory for a year from September 1942. From September 1943 until June 1945 he saw further service within Australia and was then sent to Moratai (now part of Indonesia). Private Arcus was wounded at the end of 1945 and was medically evacuated aboard an RAAF aircraft which went missing between Ambon and Darwin. His date of death was given as 19 December 1945 and his name has been memorialised on Column 7 to the Ambon Memorial, Ambon, Maluku, Indonesia.
