Private Leonard Norman ARNOLD was the son of Roy and Millicent Arnold of Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted in the AIF on 23 December 1941.
Private Arnold initially saw service in Australia and in August 1943 was sent to New Guinea. He return to Australia in August 1944 until in June 1945 his Unit, the 1st Australian Armed Regiment Workshop AEME, was sent to Morotai for service in Balikpapan. Pvte Arnold suffered a broken wrist in December 1945 and was to be returned to Australia for treatment. Sadly the RAAF Dakota aircraft in which he was a passenger was lost over the sea somewhere between Ambon and Darwin on 19 December 1945. Pvte Arnold’s date of death was given as 19 December 1945 and his name has been memorialised on Column 7 to the Ambon Memorial, Ambon, Maluku, Indonesia.
