HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE
From a recent issue ol the "Worker'' we learn that Corporal Mervyn Ball, of the 9th Battalion, who was killed in action, had been recommended for the V. C. Corporal Ball was a school teacher in civil life and a member of the local Natives football club. He was born in Charleville but enlisted at Roma. The above information came from. Pte. Keith Duncan, who is a son-in-law of Mr. Joe Carpendale.
CORPORAL MERVYN BALL, of Queensland, has been recommended for a posthumous V.C. for bravery in New Guinea. Cpl. Ball was a school teacher at Palm Island Aboriginal Station near Townsville. He was one of three who enlisted from that centre in 1940. Before going to Palm Island, Ball was assistant teacher at Roma.
