Virgil Gilbert BAMBRICK was born on 3rd May, 1914 in Rockhampton, Queensland

His parents were Valentine BAMBRICK & Daisy Ethel PENNINGTON who married in Queensland on 30th March, 1908

He married Margaret Irene SHEPPARD on 5th October, 1938 in St Marys Roman Catholic Church in Queensland

He enlisted in Brisbane on 20th June, 1942 - obtained Air Observers Badge on 20th May, 1943 -  promoted to Sergeant on 24th June 1943 & embarked for Nova Scotia on 14th July, 1943 

Virgil died on 4th November, 1944 when the Lancaster HK489 (A4-B) in which he was the air bomber, crashed during a raid on Solingen, Germany - five of the 6 crew were killed -  he was then a Flight Sergeant with the 195 Squadron (RAF)

He is buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery, Plot 5, Row B, Grave 19 and his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Roll of Honour in Monto, Queensland
