Biography

Druce Hawthorn BARTON was born on 10th October 1920 in Gordonvale, Queensland

His parents were Lindsay Druce BARTON and Eunice Ray WEEKS

He enlisted on 3rd March 1941 with the Royal Australian Air Force

Druce died in an Air Accident on 11th August 1942 near Edenham, Lincolnshire UK - he was with the 14 Operational Training (RAF )at Cottlesmore and flying a Hambden  Twin Engine Bomber -1AE 155

He is buried in Cottlesmore (St Nicholas) Churchyard Extension, Compt. 11, Grave no. 34 - also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial and the Gordonvale Roll of Honour

ROLL OF HONOUR - Sergeant W.A.G. Druce Barton

Word was received on Friday last by Mrs. & Mrs. L Barton, Highleigh Rd, Gordonvale that their only son Druce who enlisted in the RAAF and was serving in England was killed in an air accident.  The late Sergeant W.A.G. Druce Barton was born in Gordonvale and received his primary education at the Gordonvale State school.  After completing his primary he went to the All Souls School, Charters Towers and on completing his secondary education he entered the services of the Queensland National Bank, Gordonvale.  He applied for admission to the RAAF and after he was transferred to Winton he received his call up for the service.  After completing his training Druce left for England and was attached to the RAAF Squadron there.  During his training he gained many honours in various subjects taken up in connection with the Air Force.
