Parents: - Walter Sidney Bates and Mary Margaret Julia Griece,( married 8th September 1920 in St John's Church, Bingara, New South Wales), of Manilla, New South Wales.
Court of Inquiry convened 16th Novomber 1946, at Myambat Military Base, concluded Private Bates died instantly, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a stationary motor vehicle on the army base. Cause of death was a fractured skull, he was on duty at the time of death.
