Report of the crash of Lancaster

NEUILLY L'HOPITAL 1944
ARTHUR BERRYMAN was the pilot LANCASTER LM450 radio call sign PO-K for Kitty, 467 Squadron RAAF bomber based at Waddington.
On June 24, 1944 at 10:32 p.m. LANCASTER the LM450 was 1 of 16 Lancasters that took off from the base Waddington for a bombing mission Prouville V1 site in the Somme with a bomb load 2 x 1000lb and 14 x 500lb bombs. On the night of June 24 to 25, 1944 OP-K LM450 after recognizing the Prouville target and bombed the latter withdrew to regain its base. Unfortunately, the Lancaster was spotted by the spotlights hit by fire and the FLAK. ARTHUR BERRYMAN managed to keep the aircraft flying and ordered his crew to leave the aircraft. The crew were able to touch the floor, four were captured and two managed to escape.
The body of Arthur Berryman was recovered in the path of Mesnil-called "green path" by German troops and buried in the cemetery of Neuilly L'Hopital. France

Arthur is buried Neuill-L’Hospital, Pircadie France and remembered with honour on the Busselton Cenotaph, WA. He is the Brther of Charles George Lungley Berryman

Arthur Albert William BERRYMAN was born in Mitcham, Surrey on 17th May, 1915

His parents were Harry Frederick Lungley BERRYMAN & Gertrude Annie GOVES who married in England in 1903 (registered in Kingston)

He married Agnes Elizabeth SMITH on 24th February, 1938 in Sussex, Western Australia

His brother Charles George Lungley BERRYMAN also served during WW2  (SN WX11409) with the 2nd/23rd Infantry Battalion and died of wounds in New Guinea on 16th September, 1943
