A FINE AUSTRALIAN SON WELL LOVED
It was with deep regret that news was received on Wednesday last, of the death of Warrant-Officer Paul John Blumer, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. VV. Blumer, of Griffith. The official advice was that the officer had lost his life when a Liberator aircraft in which he was serving collided in mid-air with another aircraft and crashed in India whilst carrying out a non-operatonal flight.
The accident occurred on the morning of May 4, which date was Warrant-Officer Blumer's 24th birthday. Warrant-Officer Blumer joined the R.A.A.F. in January, 1940, and became a wireless air gunner. He left Australia on January 31, 1941, and served in Libya, Syria, Kenya, Burma, and Afghanistan and lately had been serving in Burma. At one time he nearly fell into the hands of the Japanese, but escaped from Rangoon when it was occupied.
A memorial service was held in St. Alban's Church, Griffith, last night.
