Willaim was a dairy farmer, born and raised in the little country town of Poowong in Victoria. He was the son of William and Sarah and enlisted on the 19th June 1941. He arrived in Singapore on the 26th January 1942 and was a member of the 2/10th Ordnance Workshops. He was listed as missing on the 1st March 1942 and at that time was aged 21.
