A Teacher
1937 John Boyle, school teacher, South Johnstone & Innisfail
" In an R.A.A.F. casualty list published this week it appears the name of Sgt, J, Boyle, reported missing from air operations. He was well known in Proserpine and at one time was the State School teacher at the Lower Gregory School. He enlisted in Proserpine and his friends will regret to learn the sad news."

IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR DEAR SON AND BROTHER. REST IN PEACE
John was a navigator in a bomber which was shot down over Hamburg, Germany. Four crew members bailed out and were taken prisoners of war, but John and the Captain remained in the plane to assist the wireless operator who had been wounded. The bomber crashed before they could bail out.
