WAR CASUALTIES
Advice has been received by Mrs Marjorie Brett, Frederick Street, Launceston, that her husband, Capt John William Brett (A.I.F.), was accidentally killed on October 6 while on active service. Born in 1917, Capt Brett was the son of the late Mr Robert Brett and the late Mrs Clara Brett. After attending the Launceston State High School, he joined the advertising staff of "The Examiner" in 1934, later transferring to the prining department as a salesman. A commissioned officer in the militia at the outbreak of war, he joined the A.I.F. in May, Capt J W Brett 1940, and was attached to a signals school in the Middle EAst. returning he spent some time on the mainland before being drafted to New Guinea. He leaves a widow, who was formerly Miss Marjorie Wood, and two young children.
