Pilot Officer William Edward Brine 406023 RAAF and Sergeant Douglas Charles Gordon 644693 RAF (from Canada) were killed when Maryland AH283 of 39 Squadron RAF crashed in the Derna area of Libya - their bodies were not recovered and they are commemorated on the Alamein Memorial
Pilot Officer Brine is mentioned in the book “Hatching an Air Force” by Peter Ilbery
