Biography

The first 'Thousand Bomber Raid' was mounted on the evening of 30/31 May 1942 by RAF Bomber Command.  The raid was flown against the German Ruhr (industrial heartland) city of Cologne.  To do so the RAF put every aircraft they could lay their hands on, in the air, including aircraft from training units.
